Does Your Balcony Feel a Little Gritty in Spring?

As soon as yellow dust starts making the news, many of us think,

"Ah... it's that time of year again."

Whether it's around the windows, on the balcony, or even on a freshly washed car that suddenly feels a little gritty, it's always a bit disappointing.

As spring arrives, there are more days when we want to open the windows and let in some fresh air.

It's a wonderful time of year, but it's also when fine sand and dust tend to collect on balconies, window screens, and window tracks.

Especially after it rains, yellow dust and pollen can stick to the floor,

Sometimes you just want to “pretend that you didn’t see it…”

That said, cleaning a balcony can be more physically demanding than you might expect.

Sweeping the floor, rinsing it with water, wiping down the railings, and cleaning around the drain...Before you know it, it has become quite a workout.

If you're cleaning your balcony yourself, we recommend sweeping up the sand and dust before pouring a large amount of water over the floor.

Because yellow dust and pollen are extremely fine, adding water first can turn them into muddy residue that is more likely to stick to the floor and clog the drain.

A simple trick is to tear up some damp newspaper, scatter it across the floor, and sweep it up together with the dust. This helps keep the fine particles from becoming airborne and makes cleaning surprisingly easier.

Cleaning your window screens and window tracks along with the balcony may also help the air coming into your home feel a little fresher.

At Jeannie, we also provide professional balcony and window cleaning as part of our House Cleaning Service.

From window screens and tracks to stubborn dirt on the floor, we carefully clean each area according to its condition.

Because it's a space you use every day, even a small amount of cleaning can make your home feel more comfortable.
